The Porsche Club Speed Championship is the perfect way to start in motorsport, without the cost or pressure of racing. For some competitors, the Speed Championship is used as a stepping-stone from attending track days towards actual racing, while other drivers stay in and enjoy the championship for a number of years.
Competition, value for money and a good social atmosphere are some of the key features of the Speed Championship as competitors race against the clock at circuits such as Brands Hatch and Goodwood, as well as at classic hill-climb venues like Shelsley Walsh and Prescott. The mix of disciplines sees all aspects of car control tested, the champion being the driver who performs the most consistently across all the venues.
David Hilton clinched the 2008 Porsche Club Speed title by the narrowest margin in his three-litre Class Three 911E. Champion by just 0.3 of a point, David headed a trio of drivers who had all scored 163-points, his tally of 163.6 points seeing him come out ahead after 12-events.
"For me it is all about the friendliness and camaraderie of the series" said David. "I have done seven full seasons in the Porsche Speed Championship and that is the biggest thing about the series."
Saturday 26th September saw the Porsche Club GB Speed Championship complete the final round of the season at Prescott hill climb in Gloucestershire. The day was blessed with a good turnout and great weather, although a number of ‘offs’ (both Porsches and non-Porsches) meant that the final run was quite late in the day. These delays left the PCGB drivers with a much cooler and consequently less adhesive track surface and this was reflected in the final times.

The penultimate round of the 2009 PCGB Speed Championship ran at Brands Hatch circuit last Saturday and was blessed with warm, dry weather – a fitting day for the final sprint of the season. Fifteen drivers attended this famous circuit and ran on the 1.2 mile Indy section of the circuit without any serious incidents although a few Porsche drivers did make unscheduled visits into the gravel traps of Hailwood Hill and Clearways.

The ‘barbeque summer’ we were promised has, so far, turned out to be something of a washout. The ninth round of the PCGB Speed Championship at Goodwood circuit ran under grey skies in the morning and continuous rain in the afternoon. This meant that the practice runs in the dry produced quicker results than the timed runs in the afternoon. Despite the rain or, perhaps, because of it, the competition was still exciting with some remarkable times being produced on a potentially very fast circuit affected with a lot of standing water.

The eighth round of the Porsche Club Speed Championship took place on Saturday 18th July at historic Shelsley Walsh hill climb and offered a day of good weather, close competition and a great location. Although it took a while for the track to dry out under the trees at the Esses, sixteen drivers finished the day in fine, dry weather that contributed to some very quick times throughout each class ...

It was a return to circuits for the seventh round of the Speed Championship at Castle Combe on Saturday 27th June 2009. The hot weather we have been long promised this summer finally arrived and all the runs were completed on a warm, dry track. It was also an excellent turnout by the Porsche Club drivers with nineteen drivers on the day.
Just two drivers made up Class P1 however, but Paul Ambrose nevertheless enjoyed his second appearance with the PCGB Speed ...

Saturday June 20th marked a return to Gurston Down hill climb in Wiltshire and the halfway point of the 2009 Porsche Club Speed Championship. Running in the first batch after overnight rain meant that the Porsche Club driver’s initial practice session was on a very greasy track surface. The first practice session reflected a generally cautious run as the drivers tested the conditions on this potentially very fast hill. As the day progressed however, the weather improved along with the competition times and all eleven Porsche drivers finished the day with solid performances.

Saturday 6th June saw the Porsche Club Great Britain Speed Champion- ship at the UK’s longest hill climb at Harewood in Yorkshire. It appeared that the unseasonably wet and cold weather followed us from Wiscombe with heavy rain overnight and into the morning. As the day progressed however, the rain eased off in time for some dry timed runs in the afternoon on this challenging and exciting hill. Fifteen PCGB drivers entered this round and, after starting on a difficult, slippery surface, they all whittled their times down in the afternoon to levels approaching that of our previous warmer and drier visits to Harewood.

May 17th saw the Porsche Club Speed Championship at Wiscombe Hill Climb in south Devon. Despite its picturesque location Wiscombe has built a reputation for poor weather in the last few years and, unfortunately, May 17th was no exception.
