The Porsche Club’s Track Day programme got underway in early March at Castle Combe and since then we have run another at Combe, plus the first of five days at Goodwood circuit this year. These days have proven to be popular and we have been very lucky with the weather, with all being run in sunshine.
Our next event is the Novice Evening at Brands Hatch on Thursday 20th May. This event proved to be very popular in 2009, with it being over-subscribed. It allows those who are novices to track day driving, to go on track with only other drivers of similar experience. The evening is geared to the novice driver, with a number of instructors available to offer guidance and assistance. This event is starting to fill up now, so please get your bookings in to avoid disappointment. We are also running a further Brands Hatch evening in August, which can accommodate more experienced track day drivers.
Our traditional Silverstone Grand Prix circuit day will again be linked in with Porsche’s fabulous facility there. This day takes on more significance now the British Grand Prix has been confirmed for the circuit again in 2010. Our day slots neatly between the Grand Prix and the MotoGP, the weekend after us. We will be using the ‘Bridge GP circuit’, as used for the 2009 British GP and retaining the stunning Bridge Corner. We chose this over the new ‘Arena GP circuit’, as the two additional straights of the new layout in no way compensate for the loss of the Abbey Chichane, Bridge and Priory corners. As a point of interest, the use of the pit garages is free on our days, but frequently charged for on days run by other organisers.
Above is a link to take you to the list of the dates for 2010 along with a booking form.
We have added a new date to the Track Day calendar, with a return to a circuit we have not been to for a number of years – Cadwell Park, near Louth in North Lincolnshire. It is often referred to as the British equivelant to the fabulous Nurburgring circuit. Being twisty with fast and slow corners and an impressive rise and fall, it has something for everybody – especially thrills. It has always been popular but in recent years numbers dwindled in favour of Donington Park, but with Donington off the scene for the moment, it seemed the ideal opportunity to re-visit this enjoyable track.
Our Oulton Park, day will once again take place on the first day of the circuit’s ‘Winter rates’ allowing us to offer that day at reduced price. This event was so popular in 2009 we ended up turning people away – so please get your bookings in early this year, to avoid disappointment. This day, plus Silverstone GP circuit and Cadwell Park will be run ‘Open Pitlane’. So, aside from the first hour of the day when drivers will be grouped according to track day experience, drivers will be able to go on track when they choose, subject to the number of cars on track. This type of day is very popular with the membership, as it allows for the potential of lots of track time and a relaxed day.
Following feedback from Club members, all of our Goodwood days will continue with just 25 cars booked on the day and the Castle Combe days with just 35 cars. This has proved to be popular as it allows for more track time, despite the slightly higher cost per head. These days will be run to the traditional queuing system.
Three of our days this year will be on Saturdays as, despite expressions of support they tend to be less well supported than weekdays. Of our Castle Combe dates, three will be run to the higher noise limit of 105dbA (normally 100dbA). This higher limit will also apply to all other venues on all dates shown - (see notes below the list of dates).
We are able to send Track Day dates to those who request them, by e-mail. The 2010 dates have already been mailed to those on the mailing list. If you would like to receive any future updates by e-mail, just forward your e-mail address to trackdays@porscheclubgb.com,
